Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I got sick a week ago and I just haven't felt like sitting at a computer and writing an entry. Last wednesday, I started feeling really tired. That night, I came down with a really bad fever, the chills and a compulsive urge to throw up....aka the Flu (scary music). Thursday morning, Lena walked me across the street to the nearest doctor (15 seconds from my door) and we scheduled an appointment for an hour afterwards. One hour later, I was waited in the waiting room, looking like an absolute fool and feeling pretty sick. I was wearing two pairs of pants, ski socks, a long sleeve shirt, a fleece on top of that, a sweatshirt, my winter coat, and let's not forget the hat, scarf and gloves. I was freezing. The doctor took one look at me and said, I think you might have a fever, either that or you are crazy. He sat me down in his office and asked me a lot of questions, then we went to an examination table and he did the normal doctor thing, blood pressure, look in your ears and nose.... A few minutes later, he said "Aren't you glad it's not the bird flu?" He was joking around, but I wasn't really in the mood, I did a half-smile. He wrote out my perscription and said in broken english that he would later repeat in French to make sure that I understood "It's flu. Sleep much. No work." He was a nice doctor. I paid my 20 Euro co-pay and walked to the pharmacy where my 5 boxes of medication cost me 4.79. I like France's medical system.
I stayed out of work last Thursday and Friday, so I had a five day weekend. I went to work on Monday, but I really didn't feel too good. Most of my teachers said that I looked too pale to be in school. Unfortunately on Monday there was another disturbing message on the teacher's board. A 15 year old girl went missing on Thursday night. The police found her Saturday night, dead at the local castle. Wonderful, I just don't know what is up with France anymore.
I finally have the internet, but it doesn't really work that well. I called the company to complain about the service and since then, it's gotten a little bit better, but I'm starting to get sick of people (mainly technical personelle) treating me like I'm an idiot because I have an accent. I'm feeling much better flu-wise, but I've gotten a head cold now. I can't win. Anyway, two weeks before my mom is here and 30 days before I see Phil again. Until then, I plan on going skiing in the Alps on Sunday (as long as I'm not sick) and just taking care of my health. No big trips planned in the next two weeks, I have to save up my money for when my mom, Danielle and Phil come.
